Toyota recalls 520,000 vehicles globally .

Image
Toyota on Friday said it is recalling about 520,000 vehicles, mostly in North America, over several issues including cable corrosion that could see unused spare tyres fall off. The world’s biggest automaker made the announcement just days after US rival General Motors said it was recalling 2.4 million more vehicles in the United States. Both car giants have been struggling with product recall issues in recent years with Toyota last month calling back 6.39 million vehicles over a string of problems, dealing another blow to its long-held reputation for quality and safety. On Friday, Toyota said its announcement covered about 450,000 Sienna minivans produced between 2004 and 2011, including 370,000 in the US and 80,000 in Canada. The move was tied to concerns that salt used on snowy roads in both countries during the winter could corrode a cable that secures the vehicle’s spare tyre. “In an extreme case, the cable may break due to excessive corrosion and ...

JTF Arrests Immigration Officer with Boko Haram Identity Card !

Image
Some Nigerians over the years have consistently maintained that the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, must have sympathisers and memberships in government and security agencies, considering how effective and professional their attacks have been. The arrest of an officer of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) on Sunday, has put paid to this suspicion. A Police source told our Correspondent in a telephone interview from Maiduguri, Borno State, that “a high profile Boko Haram member, who is an officer of Nigeria’s Immigration Services, Ahmed Grema Mohammed, was named as one of the security personnel among those carrying out terrorist attacks in the country.” The revelation came after he was arrested by the men of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. Mohammed, who is an officer of the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) attached to the Nangere office of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Yobe State, was appr...

Nine Broke Rappers Who Pretended To Be Rich .

Image
Rappers appear on TV shining like crazy and bragging about how much money they have. But most of this is a really ugly lie and one that makes black people look as ignorant as any minstrel show in the history of our country. However, here’s some truth about how your favorite rapper is probably going broke right now: Rapper Ludacris 1) Ludacris was in a custody battle with the mother of his child and revealed in court filings that he earned only $55,000 over the previous year. That’s hardly the paycheck of a baller. Yes, that was $55,000 and yes, that was 2013. Singer Bow Wow 2) Lil Bow Wow was in court after his Bentley was repossessed. He revealed that he had only $1,500 in his bank account. He now has a job on BET’s 106 & Park, but this is probably not enough money to get him out of debt. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Bow Wow owes $90,000 to the IRS and another $280,000 to a luxury car leasing company. So, while his debt of financial distress re...

After all, the troubles of the day, the traffic, somebody getting you angry, there should be that one person who can calm you. Everybody would love to have somebody as a companion, so do I.” she told NET in a recent chat. The singer, who once claimed he had a vision of Wizkid being poisoned and Davido involved in a fatal accident, is urging Lagos residents to pray hard and read psalms 90 and 24 in a recent post on his Facebook page.

Nigeria asks U.S. to return $500 million Abacha loot to country .

Image
Despite its inability to adequately explain how the more than $500 million Sani Abacha loot recovered from Swiss authorities was spent, the Federal Government has filed an application at a Washington DC District Court requesting that another $500 million (N75 billion) stolen by the late military dictator, recently frozen by the United States Department of Justice, be repatriated to the country. In February, the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said the money recovered from Switzerland was used for rural development projects but failed to name specific projects the money was used for. On March 6, 2014, the American Department of Justice announced the freezing of the asset of the late Abacha stashed in various accounts in the U.S. and around the world. The loot was described as the “largest kleptocracy forfeiture action” in the department’s history in a civil forfeiture action brought before the DC District court. “General Abacha was one of the most ...

Anger in Senate over Presentation of ‘Strange’ Budget For 52 Parastatals

Image
There was confusion in the Senate yesterday over the appearance of a strange document containing the budget of federal government parastatals more than one month after the National Assembly passed N4.695 trillion 2014 budget. The document, which was presented for deliberation by Deputy Senate Leader, Abdul Ningi, caused a stir as some senators were visibly angry, querying the rationale behind the presentation of another budget document weeks after the National Assembly had concluded legislation on the national budget. The Senate passed 2014 budget on April 9. The matter got to a head when Senate President, David Mark, also expressed shock over the presentation of a matter for deliberation in the chamber without his prior knowledge. The document was accompanied by a letter addressed to the senators by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Ita Enang, where he drew the chamber’s attention to a compendium of estimates for 52 federal g...

I Can’t Give Go-ahead For Hunters To Go Into Sambisa — Gov. Shettima

Image
Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, yesterday said he appreciated the patriotism of the local hunters who showed their readiness to go into Sambisa forest, but pointed out that he had no authority to give them permission to proceed, saying that, only the president and commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria could do so. The governor, who said this in an interview, noted that even if he did have the powers to do so, it would be suicidal for them to go into the forest in search of the girls. “I honestly appreciate the spirited concerns of the hunters, but I don’t have the powers to order them to go into the forest in search of our missing daughters,” said Governor Shettima. “Only the president and commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has such powers to order troops and paramilitary into the forest. “I would not do that even if I had the powers, because it is too delicate and dangerous to g...

Jos tragedy: Why we attended Ekiti rally —APC leaders

Image
THE All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday, said it had no choice but to proceed with the Ekiti rally and asked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop playing politics with the lives of Nigerians. It said it was wrong, irresponsible and uncharitable to seek to make political gains out of the worsening and deadly terror attacks in the country. In a statement issued in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Thursday, by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said Nigerians were too discerning to be hoodwinked by the PDP’s ceaseless finger pointing and name calling, as exhibited by the party’s spokesman. It said Nigerians who watched the live telecast of the APC rally in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday saw how the party, left with no choice than to proceed with the rally in view of the suddenness of the Jos twin bombings and the fact that INEC could not be prevailed upon to change the timetable of the Ekiti polls, made it as sombre as possi...

2015 Presidency: Anxiety In Jonathan’s Camp Over Delayed Declaration .

Image
There appears to be palpable anxiety among the political associates of President Goodluck Jonathan due to  the deferment of his declaration for the 2015 presidential race. He was initially billed to formally declare this month. The zonal rallies organised by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were arranged as a prelude to the formal presidential declaration in May. But the latest development is coming amid reports that last-minute efforts by the president to elicit the support of former president Olusegun Obasanjo ahead of the race suffered another set-back as the former leader insisted that President Jonathan should stay out of the presidential contest. LEADERSHIP Friday reliably gathered that, in a subtly controlled manner, the presidency has also directed all pseudo-campaign organisations to carry on their activities with less fanfare and visibility for obvious reasons. But the umbrella body of all such campaign outfits, the Goodluck Jonathan S...
