Police arraign gangster for killing undergraduate

The Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, has arraigned a 34-year-old man, Sikiru Yusuf, aka Apako, before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s court for the alleged murder of Kazeem Bamgboye. Bamgboye, a final year student of Kwara State Polytechnic, was on a visit to his parents for school funds, when he was struck on the head with an iron rod at Doyin Bust Stop, in the Orile Iganmu area of the state. PUNCH Metro  had reported on April 8, 2014 that the defendant was caught two years after committing the crime through community effort. It was learnt that on the day of the incident, there had been a fight between gangs in Adeleye and Alhaji Jimoh streets in which arms and ammunition were used by both sides. The victim, who was going for a birthday party and was waiting to board a bus, was said to have been attacked by Yusuf with an iron rod. Missing construction worker worries Oworonshoki residents.

Although nine persons are said to have been rescued from a building that collapsed on Sand Beach Lane, in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos, residents still suspect that a corpse may be lying in the rubble. Last Thursday, around 11am, the two-storey building collapsed while construction work was going on, leaving about 10 people trapped – including three children – in the rubble for awhile. After efforts by government agencies such as the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority and the National Emergency Management Authority, the victims, who were seriously injured, were taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for medical attention. On Sunday afternoon, when our correspondent visited the area, some people staying around the sand beach said there were strong indications that there was a dead body still lying under the rubble. Some of the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls’ Secondary School (GGSS), Chibok, Borno State, have been ferried around Lake Chad basin by their abductors. A Chibok youth leader, Dr Pogu Bitrus, who stated this during an interview with the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), said there was a report that the girls were hustled to the neighbouring country. He said, “We have a report that the sect might have divided the girls into different groups and separated them to make it impossible to get all the girls in one place. “Since the girls were abducted from GGSS Chibok by the Boko Haram, we heard that the girls were separated. Some were detained in Sambisa Forest, some detained around Gwoza, Marte and Monguno axis. “For almost two weeks the security forces left us in confusion regarding their glaring inability to rescue the schoolgirls and no information from the security that will calm the frustrated parents.” Bitrus has accused the gove...
