Enugu deputy gov sacked for rearing chickens !

THE Enugu State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, formally impeached the state’s deputy governor, Sunday Onyebuchi, over the alleged two-count charge of misconduct and disrespect to the constituted authority it brought against him.
Onyebuchi’s impeachment came through when the House adopted the report of the impeachment panel set up by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Innocent Umezurike, who found him guilty of the allegation of gross misconduct levelled against him.
It was gathered that the Franklin Oraeke-led panel, last Wednesday, concluded its investigation and found the former deputy governor guilty of the three allegations levelled against him. He was alleged of rearing poultry in his official quarters, failed to represent the governor in Anambra State when President Jonathan came to launch the 2nd Niger Bridge as well as failed to represent Governor Chime at the South-East Governors’ Forum meeting held at Government House, Enugu, in June.
While moving for the deputy governor’s impeachment at the floor of the House, the leader of the House, Honourable S.K.E Udeh-Okoye, representing Awgu North Constituency, stated “the House, having carefully considered the report on investigation of the allegations, do adopt it and it is hereby adopted.  Be it moved and is hereby moved.”
The House relied on the 1999 Constitution as amended to move for the impeachment.
Speaking to newsmen on the impeachment, Chairman, House Committee on Information, Honourable John Kevin Ukuta, explained that the House acted on the report of the impeachment panel.
Meanwhile, the impeached deputy governor of Enugu State, Sunday Onyebuchi, has faulted his removal by the House, saying he is heading to court to challenge his removal.
Speaking to journalists few hours after his removal, the former deputy governor said he was confidence the court would reinstate him even as he advised his successor not to operate a poultry house but to rear ostriches, monkeys and cows.
He made the statement in an apparent reference to his earlier testimony before the seven-man impeachment panel that tried him, where he had stated that Governor Chime reared monkeys, ostriches and other animals at the Government House.
He said: “we all saw how the panel that was constituted conducted its sitting. The panel could not hide their bias. You also know that members of the state assembly signed my impeachment notice before the allegations were made known to them.”
“So, I have had the opportunity of going through the report of the panel. Yesterday evening, a member of the panel phoned and told me that his conscience was disturbing him that he would reach me later to talk to me, but he made available to me a copy of the panel’s report when I insisted that if he wants to reach me he should make available to me a copy of the report.
“I have had the opportunity of going through the report and I want to say that the report is as funny and frivolous as the allegations themselves, and I will not be surprised to know that the members signed that report before the commencement of the sitting. In the last page where they signed the report, it was just titled conclusion; that members are of the opinion that the allegations against me have been proved and they now signed their signature. That’s why I believe that they signed it before the commencement of the impeachment process.”
“The report was given.  What the House is supposed to do was to consider the report.  The report was studied and considered. We now came up with a resolution,” Ukuta explained.
The spokesman of the House, Honourable Ukuta pointed out that the governor is now free to pick Onyebuchi’s  replacement and forward same to the House for consideration.
