Facility maintenance: Power outage to hit Lagos !

There will be disruptions to supply in some parts of Lagos State, according to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Speaking with Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, the Senior Manager for Lagos Region, Public Affairs Department, TCN, Mrs Celestina Osin, said the planned disruption of electricity supply to some parts of the Lagos metropolis will be between 10:00am-2:00pm on Thursday.
According to her, “the management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria Lagos Region, has completed arrangement to commence planned disruption of electricity supply to some parts of the Lagos metropolis from 10:00am-2:00pm on Thursday, July 10,2014.
“The planned outage which will emanate from the Akangba Sub-Region will enable us carry out annual preventive maintenance on the secondary breaker and bus isolator, which are very important equipment in the power transformers in the station,” she said.
She assured that power transmission to the region will be unhindered after completion of the routine maintenance.
“With the maintenance of these equipment, electricity supply will receive a further boost in the areas that will be affected.
“The outage will see consumers in Ajele, Marina, Broad Street, Ijora Cause Way,  Ijora Olopa and their environs being without electricity supply for the period that the maintenance work will last. This is because about 30megawatts (MW) of load will be interrupted because two power transformers (a 30MVA and a 45MVA) will be out of service during the period,” she stated.
She said the management was soliciting the understanding and patience of all customers that will be affected by the outage, more so that the notice for the disruption is coming at such a short notice.
“We also use this medium to apologise for any inconveniences the planned blackout will cause them,” she concluded.
However, expectations of Nigerians are yet to be met after the privatisation of the power sector.
Power supply continues to worsen while the new owners lack the necessary and much talked about investment that will boost power generation, replace dilapidated power infrastructure and build new plants.
