Borno: Man Paid N2,000 To Set Three Houses On Fire

In a very bold move, some youths in Mandara Girau village in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State recently stopped a young man, Ibrahim Tilitili, from completing his deadly contract of setting some houses in the village on fire for just a token N2,000 but not after he had succeeded in setting three houses ablaze.
Ibrahim, who hails from Chibok, and said to a resident of Mandara Girau, allegedly confessed to having being contracted to do the job by one Mallam Sani, who also resides in the village.
The suspect was said to have already set ablaze three houses, causing other residents of the village to scamper for safety as they fled in different direction, thinking it was a Boko Haram attack. But some of the young men in the village quickly recognised Ibrahim and decided to stop him before wreaking more havoc.
Giving an account of the incident, a resident of the village, said:
“Some of our men were actually scared and were running for dear lives to safe haven before some brave young men who summoned courage felt they should take on the threat. They discovered that it was Ibrahim and pounced on him and seized him.
“On realising that he was somebody they know in the village, they wanted to kill him. But some elders intervened and he was arrested and taken to Sarkin Baka- a renowned hunter in Biu town, where he made confession that, he was actually paid by Mallam Sani, who is also resident of the village, to set those houses ablaze.”
Local sources said Ibrahim’s sponsor was thereafter arrested alongside the suspect and were both handed over to the police in Biu town. Meanwhile, a fire incident at the GOBAS Shopping Complex in Monguno Council Area of Borno State has destroyed property worth millions of Naira at the spare parts market.
Chairman of the Local Government, Mohammed Nur, who visited the market, however promised to assist those who suffered loss in the inferno, saying he would seek assistance from the State Emergency Management Agency in order to help the victims.
Spokesman of traders Alhaji Auwal Shehu, said the inferno consumed six motorcycles shops and other valuables. He called on the government to come and assist them, saying the inferno has put most of them out of business.
