House: Lawmaker Accuses Ex-minister Of Cornering N110m Constituency Fund .
A
member of the House of Representatives, Hon Albert Akintoye, has alleged that
the former Minister of Niger Delta Ministry, Chief Godsday Orubebe,
surreptitiously cornered N110 million allocated for the constituency project
for the Okitipupa\Irele federal constituency of Ondo State.
Akintoye
who represents the constituency made the allegation when officials of the
ministry were led by the supervising minister, Mr. Darius Isiaka, to the House
of Representatives for budget defence.
The
lawmaker, who doubles as the deputy chairman of the Niger Delta Committee, in
making accusation, lamented that all the constituency projects in the 2013
budget were executed except that of the Okitipupa\Irele federal constituency.
Akintoye,
who is facing a tough time from his constituents who accused him of embezzling
the money, said “The funds was released for the constituency projects in the
2013 budget, but my constituency money was not released when all were released
and all efforts since then to unravel the mystery behind the disappearance of
the money proved abortive.”
According
to Akintoye, “I am the only PDP member from Ondo State in the House and as
deputy chairman of the committee, I’m not expected to be treated like this. The
money is N110 million and has been in the ministry for the 2013 budget and 99
percent of the money was released to the listed constituency to benefit from
the funds.”
Alleging
that the former minister has embezzled the money , he appealed to the ministry
to go ahead and complete his constituency projects this year so that his people
could feel the sense of belonging and enjoy the Niger Delta funds since they
also belong to Niger Delta.
The
chairman of the Niger Delta committee, Hon. Warman Ogoriba, however appealed to
Akintoye to sheathe his sword while he finds the means of resolving the issue
amicably by ensuring that the project is included in the 2014 budget.
